Hello Brave Souls,
A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon a quote that has stopped me in my tracks:
"Once the storm is over, you won't remember how you made it through... But one thing is for certain, when you come out of the storm, you won't be the same person who walked in. That's what the storm is all about." - Haruki Murakami
It got me thinking about the storms we all face - you know, the ones that make you want to hide under the covers and eat an entire pan of brownies.
The challenges, fears, and uncertainties that can feel like they're swallowing you whole.
But what if we chose to face those storms with small acts of courage? What if we decided to be like those tiny, brave flowers that push through the cracks in the sidewalk, reaching for the sun?
That's what our Scare Your Soul challenges are all about. Each week, we invite you to take one small, brave step. It's not about being a hero or making grand gestures. It's about consistently expanding our comfort zones, one tiny, terrifying step at a time.
Why?
Because stepping outside our comfort zones is where the magic happens.
It's where we grow, learn, and discover new aspects of ourselves. It's where we find out that we're stronger than we think, that we can handle more than we ever imagined.
When we embrace discomfort, we build resilience. We boost our confidence. We open ourselves up to new experiences and opportunities.
We become like those little flowers, pushing through the cracks, reaching for the light.
Your 10-Minute Courage Challenge
This week, I challenge you to spend 10 minutes doing something creative that pushes you out of your comfort zone.
Here are a few ideas:
Draw or paint a simple picture, even if you "can't draw"
Dance to a favorite song like no one's watching
Sing out loud in the shower or your car
Try a new art or craft tutorial on YouTube
Write a haiku about something you observed today
Here’s mine, written about my favorite coffee shop:
Heartwood Roasters
Latte art, friendly barista
Caffeine dreams come true
The key is to embrace the discomfort and let yourself be a beginner.
Notice how it feels to try something new, without judgment.
As you engage in your 10-minute creative courage act, remember: every small brave step matters.
Each one helps us weather life's storms with a little more resilience and grace.
I can't wait to hear about your experience!
Hit reply and tell me all about it - the good, the bad, and the downright embarrassing.
Better yet, snap a photo of your creative courage in action and share it on social media. Tag @ScareYourSoul so we can all cheer you on and marvel at your bravery. Bonus points if you're wearing something ridiculous!
And hey, I'm always on the lookout for new ways to step outside our comfort zones.
So, if you've got an idea for a tiny, terrifying act of courage, hit reply and lay it on me.
Here's to embracing the storms, one dance move at a time,
